The Bright Idea - How Wax Words™ all came about;
Peter and Tanya Bokis founded Wax Words™ in March 2006 with the development of a unique personalized system/concept called Wax Words™. We are always asked how we came up with such a neat idea. Well, Peter is the inventor of Wax Words™ and here is his story…as his wife, I have a slightly different version, so my variation to the story is underlined.

Pete’s Story: The concept came to me while rolling candles for our wedding favours - you know the swag you gotta hand out to thank people for coming to share in this special occasion. We had an open bar, wasn’t that enough? - Now, Pete… We wanted to do something a little different so we came up with rolling our own beeswax candles. |

Being from a small town in the Kootenays in British Columbia this seemed a natural selection for gifts. - ?!
After rolling the first 50 or so of the pairs of candles, the feeling of ‘Labour of Love’ had diminished for me considerably. I now thought of it more as a chore than the thoughtful, personal gift it was meant to be. - OK, reality check - he rolled like, 20 and then tried to get out of it.
The idea came to me that if we could place a wax sheet, a wick and a little bit of instructions all on a card at the guest tables, then people could roll their own candles! Hey - people from around here are pretty used to rolling their own stuff anyway…- ?!!
I took this brilliant revelation to my fiancé. She decided pretty quickly that this was my way of trying to break a commitment and she really didn’t want any such precedence’s set so early in our relationship. - Not exactly the words I used, but the point got across. Stop complaining and roll candles!
I went back to rolling candles. - Good boy!
A short time later my lovely wife was trying to think of cool stuff to put on a table she shared with my sisters at a craft fair. I brought up my candle/card idea again. - Huh?
She said “I just don’t get it.” - I didn’t.
So I took up some leftover wax, some cardstock, wick and Christmas decorations, went to the basement and made the first prototype. I came back upstairs, still shaking my head that she couldn’t understand the idea in the first place, and with a flourish - albeit a manly one – I tossed the card on the table and said with all the enthusiastic grandeur I could come up with - “…here”. - He writes greeting cards?
I finally got a different reaction. My wife just stood there speechless for a moment, then said with similar linguistic alacrity “…Wow.” “Yeah, I know. Cool, eh?” I said. - Yeah, it happened like that…
The Wax Words™ Idea was born! - Just like that.
After many beers (cups of tea), lots of head scratching and numerous “Now what’s?” we decided to get the idea patented. - It’s no wonder I have so much grey hair - and my husband so little.
We’ve come a long way from the first prototype - many revisions and revelations - and are now ready to share this unique and exciting idea with everyone!
This is our way to add a little light and warmth to the world. - Very nice, Petey.

Wax Words™
When a person or business gives a card or gift, it is a token of appreciation. They also want to stand out - to be thought of as unique and different. To make the receiver feel special. |
||
Typically the amount of uniqueness is related to cost - meaning the more you spend - the greater the impact. Wax Words™ offers individuals and businesses the opportunity to have this impact at a reasonable cost. Wax Words™ Gift Cards combine two vast and active markets that generate billions of dollars in sales every year - Greeting Cards and Candles - to create both kind, meaningful words and a gift - all in the same envelope. Wax Words™ creates gift cards with a 100% beeswax inlay that become a candle. Colorful sheets of wax displaying creative images and thoughtful sentiments are combined to create a very unique product both to give and to receive! |
||
Wax Words™ cards are affordable to buy and send. They deliver more of an impact than a regular card. Wax Words is a gift that can be sent by letter post either across the street or around the world. It’s a project. Think about it. You open the envelope, notice the interesting uniqueness of the construction, read the sentiment, figure out that you can actually make a functional candle! Remove the wax, enjoy the natural honey scent of beeswax, follow the instructions and roll your candle. ADMIRE this WONDERFUL thing you have just created. Place it in a candle holder and enjoy the soothing, emotional and healthy effects of a lighted beeswax candle, and fondly remember the one who sent it while the candle burns for two and a half to three hours! Traditional cards are glanced at and read - they ARE appreciated - but not for more than a few minutes before they are put aside, displayed for a while, then put in a box - or simply discarded. The cardstock of a Wax Words™ card is unique and special on its own! We have a variety of card styles with innovative die cuts showcasing the wax components in different ways. You can feel GREAT by giving that special Aunt who seems to have everything something truly unique. Next time give more than just a greeting card. Give a GIFT with Wax Words™. |
